A Stylish and Romantic Valentine's Day Dinner At Home Using Mostly Thrifted Pieces

A Stylish and Romantic Valentine's Day Dinner At Home Using Mostly Thrifted Pieces- design addict mom
Valentine's Day is just around the corner and I prefer a low key celebration at home as it's usually so overcrowded at the restaurants, plus it can also be a pain to find a babysitter. Do you love to thrift? I sure do and almost everything featured on the tablescape for this romantic dinner I styled is thrifted.

The table and chairs, the lace fabric pieces I draped over the table, the brass candlesticks, the cups with 'you' 'me,' the vase, the glassware, and a few of the utensils are all thrifted. Yep! But look how stylish they are. These were thrifted over time and I pulled from my thrifted stash to use for this romantic dinner.

I bought these pink and red garlands from Target in that area where you can buy things for a dollar etc. These were 3 dollars I believe. I had the idea to drape them over a few of Glory the Fig(my fiddle leaf fig) limbs and love how it turned out.

Make This Your Best Year Yet-The Self Care Approach

Make This Your Best Year Yet-The Self Care Approach- design addict mom
This post is sponsored by American Women’s College, all opinions are my own.

"...And I feel like what I've learned from this whole experience is, women, we’re nurturers, that’s what’s expected of us. We have our children, we have our husbands if we're lucky enough, and our partners. But we have to find personal fulfillment. We have to follow our dreams. We have to say, "I can do that, and I should be allowed to do that.”
This excerpt from Glenn Close’s Golden Globe acceptance speech earlier this year couldn’t be more apt and also served to more solidify the intention of more self care that I set for this year.

As nurturers, we tend to place the needs of others before ours, be it our children, spouses, etc.,  and this habit seems even more pronounced when you’re a military spouse.  You can easily “lose yourself” in that role, many times over extending yourself to make everything work and meet the demands of an ever changing military paradigm. I am not one to usually make resolutions, but rather set intentions and though 2018 was a wonderful year in many aspects, I found that the area of self care could be vastly improved.

So, this year, I will be focusing on just that; fostering a more healthy mind and body.

Self care and how it’s manifested will look different for each of us but ultimately it involves taking care of ourselves and possibly becoming a better version of ourselves. For many military spouses, that means pursuing higher learning or completing an advanced degree. Online education has proven to be an invaluable tool for military spouses and civilians alike and as a military spouse who has completed an advanced degree online, I can attest to this.

An accredited, fully online Bachelor’s program, The American Women’s College, was created just for adult women and offers over 20 degrees in dynamic fields to afford military spouses the opportunity to seek higher education that is accommodating for their lifestyle and helps them to realize a goal of self actualization.  I especially love that they offer an accelerated program that allows you to get your degree in less than 1-3,- years helping women realize their full potential sooner. xx

A Bedroom Update with Pantone's Color of the Year 2019

A Bedroom Update with Pantone's Color of the Year 2019- design addict mom
It's no secret that color excites me and though it may seem that I am always redoing our bedroom, the green version has actually been in place for awhile(well, maybe not that long). Anyway, toward the end of last year, i felt it was time for a change and I kept leaning toward a shade in the pink family. However, last month while shopping for new bedding, that rust/coral bedding caught my eye and it felt so right once i brought it home and placed it on the bed. It really made me happy and so, the idea to paint the room a similar shade was born and of course, the color just so happens to be similar to Pantone's color of the year; living coral

I chose Benjamin Moore Coral Gables and it is the most delicious color in this space. I didn't change much of anything else in here and it made the existing pieces/accessories look brand new.

It's the perfect backdrop for the plants too-so lovely!

One of my favorite areas in the room

A little glimpse into the bathroom. I was fully prepared to repaint the pink adjoining doors in case they didn't work with the color, but I like the contrast pop and will leave it(at least for now)

Most of the art is leaning in here because I can't bring myself to place anything on the walls. However,  I recently acquired what I think is the most perfect piece for behind the bed and keeping fingers crossed that command strips will be able to hold it in place. I'll show once it's in place.  This coral color is truly a delight and I think I'll be keeping it around for a bit:-). Have a wonderful weekend and stay warm. xx
