One Room Challenge: Week 5; The Styling Loot

ORCBanner Fall 13
Late post. Blame it on the little one who just turned two and thinks naps are obsolete…
One room Challenge
Unfortunately, I have no pictures of the room to share today. After finally completing the painting, I turned my attention to looking/shopping/thrifting for “stuff” to use for styling. I recently bought that phone(above) from a thrift store because

I’ve always wanted to style with an orange phone. I spray painted it orange, but almost regretted it. It took forever to spray the cord and I still have touch ups to do. We’ll see how it fares in the bedroom…

I thrifted this bird and brass container. I paid less than $3 for both, and I intend to use them in some way in the room. I wished there was a pair of the birds as pairs are great feng shui…However,

i  do have these pair of beautiful birds! I have been searching for frames for them and haven’t been successful in finding frames that I love, so I will have to cough up the dollars to get them professionally framed…

another thrift find. I fell in love with the heart detail and gold details; perfect for the romantic and feng shui flair that I’m going for. I intend to spray it white and incorporate it in styling too.

thrifted too. loving the texture and the gold rim detail and it’s already white, so no diy necessary.

More thrifted loot. I couldn’t resist these at all! I may not actually use it all in the bedroom, but they’re going somewhere in the house!

I bought this rug at my local Tuesday Mornings last week. Great texture and colour! Great price too. I foresee lots of sleepless nights since I’ll be working my butt off to get the room styled and ready for shooting. It’s a challenge when you have to do all that other Mommy stuff too. Nonetheless, I am excited to see how it all comes together. Blessings and happy Wednesday everyone! xx

Well,  maybe my fellow participants have much more for you to see, so let’s go and check them out!

Our Spookified DIY Pumpkins.

Our Spookified DIY Pumpkins
We don’t usually celebrate Halloween. I however always have candy out for the children who trick or treat, but we never do all that spooky stuff with decorations, etc. Well, this year will be different. You see Zion has added the word spooky to his repertoire(thanks to school) and being the teacher Mom that I am, I feel compelled to reinforce the word spooky at home. I had the pumpkins and went on the hunt for things around the house that I could use for this operation “spookify” some pumpkins!  That poor teething toy was the first thing I saw and well, let’s just say that it lost its eyes and mouth.

Our Spookified DIY Pumpkins
I created more spooky pumpkins using the materials above that I found in different areas of our home.

Our Spookified DIY Pumpkins
And there they are! I cut pieces from a styrofoam cup to create the eyes and mouth for the 2nd pumpkin. A velcro piece was used for the nose. I used sharpie for the third pumpkin. For the first pumpkin, I borrowed the eyes from an art work of Zion’s. The hair, nose and mouth were made from black construction paper. Of course, you already know that I mutilated a teething toy for the fourth one. Bad mama!Smile. I’d say that the goal of reinforcing the word spooky at home has been met, right?

Pumpkins DIY
I am not sure what’s going on here. The dots ended up on the trains instead of the pumpkins, but they are having fun… Happy weekend everyone! xx

One Room Challenge: Week 4; Feng Shui Elements

ORCBanner Fall 13
Welcome, welcome everyone! It’s week four and I am wishing it were only week two! Anyway, onward and forward to today’s post. Last week, I told you we would be focusing on the feng shui elements that I want to incorporate, so here we go.

Photo Oct 22, 8 02 50 PM
I actually had feng shui in my mind from the very beginning of the construction of our home and the Master bedroom. The placement of the bed right now is at its optimal spot(headboard in the East position). If it were placed on any other wall, it would either be sharing a wall with plumbing or directly facing a door which are all undesirable positions for feng shui.  However, my feng shui stopped there and now with this transformation that I am undertaking, it is important to add the missing feng shui elements.

Famous Feng Shui Author

Last year, I had a virtual encounter with famous feng shui expert, Jayme Barrett.  I received a signed copy her bestselling book; Feng Shui Your Life which I reviewed here and here. I reached out to her to see if she could provide some tips specific to my space and she said sure! I was elated! I forwarded my pictures and told her about my design direction and feng shui desires for the space. I asked her a couple specific questions and I am going to share the questions and her answers with you:

Photo Oct 23, 12 00 13 AMpic from last week

Question 1. I have been reading about the "love corner" in your book. Is there a
recommended place for that in the bedroom?

Jayme’s Response: If you want to boost romance in your life, it's important to energize the
Love Center, which is the back right corner of your bedroom (from the
standpoint of the entrance of the room). So, in your bedroom, as you stand
looking at the bed, it will be under the right window. You can create a love
area on the right nightstand if you wish. In my book "Feng Shui Your Life,"
there are loads of ideas to put in your Love Center. I would definitely have
a living plant or live flowers, a symbol of love (a photo of you and your
hubby, a quote about love, a rose-quartz heart) and a pair of pink or red
candles. You could also hang a picture on the small wall above the
nightstand adjacent to the wall papered wall.

Question 2. I am planning on placing a couple art pieces on the walls in the bedroom?
Do you have any recommendations on what types are best or what types to

Jayme’s Response: The best type of art for the bedroom should be images that evoke love,
passion and abundance. The most important area to hang art is directly
opposite your bed. It will be the last image you see before going to sleep
and the first you see when you wake. It sets the tone for your dreams and
for the beginning of your day. They should engender feeling of inspiration,
gratitude and love. Make sure both you and your husband love the artwork and
choose it together. You can also hang "manifestation art," which are images
of places you'd like to go or things you want to experience together. Let's
say you'd like to go to Italy, you could hang an image of the area of Italy
you dream about. This way, you both can envision being there together. It
can also be an image of a place you've already been to and had a wonderful
time. Your art can evoke happy, romantic memories, like your honeymoon.
Images of nature are soothing and restful.

Question 3. Are there any basic feng shui tips that can be used in the bedroom to
help to maintain romance and a hearty relationship for married couples like

Jayme’s Response: To maintain a healthy relationship, make sure you have cleared clutter
(which I know you have!), place items in pairs to evoke the energy of a
couple (two candles, two lamps, two photos etc), create balance by having a
nightstand on each side of the bed, hang romantic artwork, and keep work out
of the bedroom. Also, in feng shui, we suggest removing any photos of your
children or parents. It should be a romantic sanctuary for you and your
husband and the focus is on the relationship. You can place photos of the
kids everywhere else in the house. Also, add the colors of red and pink to
energize romance. I'm glad you are removing the television. When it's time
to be alone, it's better to connect romantically without the distraction of
the TV (smartphones and Ipads too)! Looking forward to seeing your finished

Thank you so much Jayme and I am so excited to incorporate these feng shui elements into my bedroom design! At the end of this overhaul, I will be able to say this. is. where. the. magic. happens! Haha! I hope these tips were also helpful to you all. Jayme’s book is an invaluable resource not only for feng shui but improving your quality of life. I refer to it all the time!

The room is finally completely painted.I am currently working on the wall opposite my bed, finalizing the art pieces that go there, etc. I bought a few pieces that will need to be framed. I did get that wingback chair from last week’s post and haven’t even bought fabric yet. Yikes! I will need another week for sure! Click here for week one’s post.

Ok, come with me to see what the others have accomplished so far!

Birthday Boy…

Photo Oct 17, 6 49 21 PM
if you look closely you’ll see that he was crying because mom snapping a gazillion pics wasn’t his idea of fun. he busted out smiling when I started to sing one of his favourite songs; my inability to carry a tune and his love for that song were the winning combination to warrant a big smileSmile.

He turned two on Thursday and I almost cried! Where did the time go?

There’s never a dull moment. He is a very happy fellow whose laughter and smiles fill my heart with joy! More than anything else, he has enriched our lives and has been the best baby brother to Zion. They are the best playmates! How are you all doing? Whose going to High Point Market? I won’t be able to make it this Fall and I will be blogging about the showrooms that are on my radar so stay tuned! Happy Saturday friends! xx

One Room Challenge: Week three

ORCBanner Fall 13
Hello everyone! A warm welcome to anyone who is reading for the first time.  I can’t believe we’re already in week 3 of this challenge! Last week I told you that wallpaper would be going up.

Photo Oct 15, 9 28 52 PM
My wallpaper magician. His applications are seamless and he came on Saturday to work his magic.

Photo Oct 15, 10 28 27 PM
The room is a mess because I am in the process of painting

What the frank is this? We didn’t agree on this wallpaper! I know, I know. While I am still head over heels with the wallpaper in last week’s post, I decided I wanted to do something a little different. If you know me, you know that I am. not. afraid. of. bold. However, for the Master Bedroom, I want a little flirty, romantic, girly, light, and airy feel. While I am not a fan of overly floral things, this wallpaper does not overwhelm with its floral beauty. Also, the picture doesn’t show the beauty of the wallpaper. The final pics will be much better. The wallpaper is textured with iridescent white butterflies as the backdrop. Then there are more butterflies and cute florals in the forefront. It’s a vintage paper that I scored at a local wallpaper store.

Photo Oct 15, 9 03 32 PM
The room was painted in Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter before. I decided to repaint in Benjamin Moore White Dove. I most always opt for eggshell finish instead of flat because I have to be able to wipe the walls (being a mama of two little boys). The White Dove is perfect because it has warmth and I’ve noticed that depending on the lighting, it  can also read as a subtle grey.

Photo Oct 15, 11 19 58 PM
Although I am not finished painting, the difference in the brightness of the room is evident.

Photo Oct 11, 3 43 37 PM
I posted this Anthropologie bedding as my inspiration for bedding on Instagram last week. It will be all about the bed in this transformation. I had already bought the wallpaper and this duvet has all the colours in the wallpaper. It’s beautiful, isn’t it?

Photo Oct 15, 4 54 23 PM
Well I ordered the duvet on Saturday and  yesterday evening it was on my doorstep. I definitely ripped that box apart gleefully!

Photo Oct 15, 9 16 41 PM
I raced to the room and just threw it on to see how it looks and my goodness, I couldn’t love it more! Already, the bed is the focal point and I haven’t even layered yet.

Photo Oct 15, 9 15 01 PM (1) (deleted 9f405d1f450bb06a3a70b3d33ae6a3de)
Each side has a different design and the vivid and pretty colours complement the wallpaper beautifully. It’s also very soft to the touch. Now, it’s  folded neatly and tucked away while I finish painting the room.

Photo Oct 15, 1 38 46 PM
I posted this on Instagram yesterday to get feedback on whether I should get if for seating. It’s at a local thrift store and I envision it in some fab fabric. However, I still have that seating piece that I showed in the first post. We’ll see what happens… So far, the vote is to buy this piece. What say you?  You can click here to see week one’s post.

Feng Shui Elements, etc.

I will be posting about the feng shui elements in next week’s post. I am contemplating painting the side tables. I will be deciding on the knick knacks to be placed in the room. Also, I am shopping my house for the art, but also have unframed pieces that might also work. Therefore a trip to the framers may be in order. I need to find some fab table lamps. I am also on the hunt for a rug that will anchor the bed. Still so much to do!  What a lengthy post! Let’s see what the others are up, shall we? Blessings and Happy Wednesday! xx

Meet Kimberley: An Emiliemshop Review

Meet Kimberley: An Emiliemshop Review
I was recently contacted by the lovely folks at to choose a bag that I like for a review. I usually am very picky about what I choose to review here, and only the best make the cut. When I went to their site however, I was in bag heaven! I was also very happy to see that their prices were affordable.

Meet Kimberley: An Emiliemshop Review
The Kimberley Compartment shoulder bag in Ivy Green caught my eyes. I’m loving on all things green right now. I was happy when I received the box and saw this beauty. It was even more pretty in person than on their site. The colour is a beautiful shade of green that actually would work well with almost any other colour in your wardrobe.

Meet Kimberley: An Emiliemshop Review Meet Kimberley: An Emiliemshop Review
On the exterior, this Kimberley shoulder bag sports three zip compartments, two side pockets, and one front pocket. In addition to two cell phone pockets, an inside zip pocket, this beauty  has a leopard lining! Standing ovation please!

adorned in my favourite colours
At $85, this bag is a great buy. For me, the size is a plus because I can fit diapers, wipes, juice, and some makeup inside( a necessity). If green isn’t your cup of tea, there are other colours and also different styles available on their site.
A big shout out to Lea of Lea Hartman Photography for snapping these pics! Happy Tuesday everyone! XX
