Do any of you live in California? I have shamefully never visited there but it seems as if the houses that i tend to lust over are nestled right there. This residence, referred to as the Atherton Residence is no exception. It is designed by architects, Turnbull Griffin Haesloop and i first spotted their work on Remodelista. The residence is located south of San Francisco and was built to feel like a private retreat and also to capitalize on its lush surroundings.
The home also features large sliding doors that open out to the pond and the terrace. I envision many a nights spent out of this terrace just listening to/soaking up nature. Beautiful, isn’t it?
Did i mention that this home isn’t only beautiful, but it is also a “green” or environmentally friendly home. According to the architects:
The roofs conceal photovoltaic and solar hot water panels. The house is heated with a radiant system in the stone floors, and despite the hot climate it is not air conditioned, but passively cooled with a combination of overhangs, shades, and operable windows. The house also features many green building materials, including high fly-ash concrete, formaldehyde-free casework and denim insulation.Let’s pause here for a sec….This is just breathtaking.
This bedroom has the perfect sleep formula:-)
Well, we’re at Wednesday my friends-yay!:-). Also, the lot is cleared and i recently chose the type of foundation that i want for the home. I guess one could say that the building process is almost underway! Here’s to a great Wednesday for everyone. XX

Swoon. It's divine. Obviously I wouldn't want to clean all those windows but what a luxury. I love the indoor/outdoor living of the large doors and with their weather you can probably leave them open for so much of the year. Nice. I would take just the poolhouse even.
ReplyDeleteHi Stacey!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, I saw your post, and it was one of the blogs that inspired me to give more awareness to this disease. I know too many people who have and had to fight it... Thank you so much for leaving me comments and visiting me! I enjoy reading your posts but lately I was so busy that I didn't have a lot of time.
Also, I really like that wooden fireplace, one for me please!
All the best,
Maureen

Really beautiful, Stacey! I used to live in Tiburon, California - a long time ago now. But I remember visiting many homes such as this one...so open to the environment. After the Colonial style of Virginia, where I lived before, it was quite a dramatic change. Nature just seems to come into most homes like this. Frank L Wright influence, wouldn't you say? (I don't really know, so I'm asking!)
ReplyDeleteThanks for this lovely time out in my day! So glad we're following each other!

what an amazing modern space! my friend just moved to Cali - can't wait to visit!!
ReplyDeleteThis place is stunning! I love modern houses like this.
ReplyDeleteit would be AMAZING to live in a home that is strategically designed to maintain a comfortable climate. i swear they didn't put enough insulation in our walls...or i'm really cold blooded (best not to ask the hubbers ha ha)!
ReplyDeleteanother beautiful find! :D congrats on your first step! do you have an estimated timeline for your build?
HAPPY WEDS!
To wake up each morning in that bed starring at those views....I don't think I would ever get up!

Sincere invitation!!

Stacey this place is amazing. I do live in California, but Southern. And believe me there are some fabulous places here too, but woweeee is this one in particular gorgeous. I love that indoor/outdoor seamless feel.
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Carrie
All of those windows are so drool worthy. Just found your blog! I'm an immediate follower! Love your eye!
ReplyDeleteOh wow that place is gorgeous! I feel like I've seen this house on a Bravo reality tv show before or something haha
ReplyDeleteYes, I've been to California and my favorite city is Santa Barbara. If you make it to Cali you have to take a drive down the coast. Your eyes will po out your head at the gorgeous homes.
ReplyDeleteThis house is incredible! All those windows make it so light and airy. Man, I wish they would let me be a guest for one night. I promise I wouldn't make a mess. The outdoor appointments are as casually luxurious as the inside. My favorite item in the house is the bed with all those drawers built built in. Great post
Hi girl:)
ReplyDeleteYou are great at picking photos...
Loved the chairs in this one...
Have a great day - sp

Good heavens that was fabulous. I love the idea of the chest of drawers as a headboard. The task lighting is so important to those of us who read in bed. Atherton is a spectacular place. Practically everything on earth that grows, grows there. It is paradise.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Liz
Such a great house, love the big windows and all the natural light :)
ReplyDeletewhat a stunning home! and thank you Stacey for dropping a sweet note on my blog. I am following you as of now!
ReplyDeleteIt's spectacular! I couldn't even imagine having all of that stunning outdoor space.
ReplyDeleteLove the sliding doors were the line between in- and outside almost sompletely disappears. Would love to have´em some day, but on a different type of house than I live in today!
ReplyDeleteThe wooden wall also really caught my eye. Think that looks beautiful and brings the nature inside.
And of course the natural light, who wouldn´t want to have all of that in their home? Here comes nature again:). I guess you could consider it to be a 'green home' in more than one way!
Lovely, inspiring, beautiful, fantastic(need I say more?) home!!!
That's pretty amazing! I love how open it is. I think that's the biggest flaw with my "cookie cutter" house...all the rooms are confined and there's no open spaces.
ReplyDeleteLOVE LOVE LOVE it! and those windows are AMAZING!

Oh my goodness! The architecture!
